Yolanda F. Chavez, a longtime Escondido resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on February 9th in Hemet, CA. She was 77 years old.

She so enjoyed teaching in the Escondido Union School District and felt incredible pride when she was selected as Teacher of the Year near the end of her career. People that knew her, knew she truly cared. She was excited to watch her thousands of students grow and achieve. If you spent time with her, she would soon know all about your family and would ask about them the next time you met.

How does one encompass, in just a few paragraphs, a well-lived life that touched so significantly so many others. One can't.

Yolanda married her high school sweetheart, Manuel H. Chavez, 59 years ago in Imperial Valley, CA. They moved to beautiful Escondido in the mid-60's. They raised six children Manuel (Trish), Selena, Mario (Maggie), Montgomery (Paul), Senaida (Keith) and Cassandra (Kim); all of whom graduated from San Pasqual High School. She was also survived by 11 very loved grandchildren and 3 very special great-grandchildren.

She loved being a mother and absolutely adored being a grandmother and great-grandmother.

We'll remember her incredible laugh and how much she enjoyed hosting family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions. There always seemed to be a good reason to get together, laugh, and enjoy Mom's great cooking.
