Sandra "Sandy" Jane Pederson, 76, of Centerville, Iowa, died on June 21, 2020 in Ankeny, Iowa, surrounded by family.

Sandy was born July 22, 1943 in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Leonard and Lucy (Saunders) Anderson. She was baptized August 1, 1943 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens, Iowa. The family lived in Thompson, Iowa, where she graduated from high school.

On October 14, 1961, Sandy was united in marriage to Wayne Pederson. During their 58 years of marriage, they were blessed with five children: Annette, Kim, Melanie, Wayne Jr. and Richard.

Sandy was a caring wife and devoted mother. Her top priority was making a warm home for her family in Rockwell City, Iowa. After the children were grown, she moved with Wayne to Phoenix, AZ. They traveled to national parks in the Western U.S. before moving back to Iowa to be closer to family.
Sandy loved supporting her grandchildren by attending school and sporting events. She was an avid reader, enjoyed telling stories, baking treats, playing cards, being outdoors and spending quality time with family and friends. She also liked volunteering with the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary in Centerville, Iowa. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Centerville.

Her grandchildren will remember her delicious baking, birthday songs and giving spirit. Celebrating Sandy and Wayne's 50th wedding anniversary will be a cherished memory.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne; and children, Annette Ungerer (Michael), Kim Helmbrecht (Tim), Melanie Schneider, Wayne Pederson, Jr. (Tami) and Richard Pederson (Sara). Sandy will also be lovingly remembered by her 17 grandchildren, Chad and Katie Ungerer, Tiffany (Kevin Voge), Austin (Ashley), Gabrielle (Dillon Hauser) and Arianna Helmbrecht, Joshua (Amanda) and Justin (Dana) Schneider, Brandon (Chelsie), Bryce, Elizabeth (Michael Fialkowski) and Briana Pederson, Gary and Samantha Jones, Jacob and Allison Pederson, and Zachary Lee. Other survivors include her 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy Menke and Mary Post; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Robert, Lawrence, and Joseph Anderson; and sister, Joan Hynes.
